Son Heung-min is set to play his 300th Premier League (PL) game.
The South Korean is set to start against Liverpool, joining Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane as the third players in Tottenham Hotspur’s history to reach 300 PL appearances.
Heung-min Son’s Tottenham Hotspur will take on Liverpool at Anfield in Liverpool, England, at 0:30 a.m. ET on Saturday in the 36th round of the 2023-24 PL. Spurs are currently fifth in the league with 60 points, while Liverpool are third with 75 points.
Ahead of the match, the starting lineups have been revealed. Both the home team and the visitors will be firing on all cylinders, with neither side able to take a step back.
The home team, Liverpool, will play a 4-3-3. Alisson Becker is in goal with the gloves. Andy Robertson, Virgil Pandeyk, Jarel Kwansa, and Trent Alexander-Arnold will defend. Harvey Elliott, Wataru Endo, and Alexis McAllister will be the backs. Luis Dias, Cody Gappo, and Mohamed Salah lead the attack.
Tottenham will also line up in a 4-3-3 formation. Guglielmo Vicario will be in goal. The back four is made up of Emerson Royale, Micky Vander Penn, Christian Romero, and Pedro Foro. At the back are Yves Bissouma, Pape Sarr, and Rodrigo Bentancur. Brennan Johnson and Dejan Kulusevski support Son Heung-min up front on the flanks.
If Spurs lose this game, they will be further away from the UEFA Champions League next season.
The good news for Spurs is that Liverpool’s recent form hasn’t been good. The Reds were in the race to win the PL title alongside Arsenal and Manchester City, but a recent slide in form has pushed them out of contention. The aftermath of being knocked out of the UEFA Europa League by Atalanta has also affected the league. A Merseyside derby loss to Everton and an away draw at West Ham United proved fatal.
Currently, Liverpool are eight points behind leaders Arsenal, having played one game less, and seven points behind Man City despite having played the same number of games. The Reds will be looking to keep their hopes of winning the league title alive until the very end, so they’ll be at full strength against Tottenham.
Tottenham’s key player is Son Heung-min, who has 16 goals and nine assists this season, making him Tottenham’s top scorer and top assister.
The South Korean has a strong record against the Reds, having scored in all four games against them. In the first meeting 안전놀이터 between the two sides this season, back in September of last year, Son opened the scoring in a 2-1 win for Spurs. If Son scores again, he will join Jamie Vardy as the only players to score in five consecutive games against Liverpool.
Along with the scoring potential, one of the things that’s garnering attention is Son’s assist record. He currently has 16 goals and nine assists in the league, and one more assist would give him a ’10-10′ record.
Only Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa – 19 goals, 12 assists) and Anthony Gordon (Newcastle United – 10 goals, 10 assists) have achieved this feat this season.
If Heung-Min Son can also record an assist this season, it will be his third 10-goal, 10-assist campaign in the PL, following the 2019-2020 (11 goals, 10 assists) and 2020-2021 (17 goals, 10 assists) seasons.
There aren’t many players in the history of the PL who have achieved the 10-goal, 10-assist feat more than three times.
Liverpool ace Mohamed Salah is the only player currently playing in the PL to have done it three times, while former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba holds the record. Manchester United legend Eric Cantona and Chelsea legend Frank Lampard have done it four times, while Wayne Rooney has scored 10 goals and provided 10 assists on five occasions.
Meanwhile, this will be Son Heung-min’s 300th PL game. It will be interesting to see if Son Heung-min can rescue Tottenham from their crisis with a big performance against Liverpool in his 300th PL game.
