Chelsea thrashes West Ham 5-0…leapfrog Man United for seventh place

Chelsea wins big.

Chelsea defeated West Ham United 5-0 in the 36th round of the 2023-24 Premier League (PL) season at Stamford Bridge in London, England, on Friday at 10 p.m. ET. With the win, Chelsea moved up to seventh place in the league with 54 points. West Ham, on the other hand, remains in ninth place in the league with 49 points.

Chelsea brought out a 4-2-3-1 formation. Nicholas Jackson, Mikhail Mkhitaryan, Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke, Conor Gallagher, Moises Kaysedou, Mark Cucurella, Benuwa Badiashil, Thiago Silva, Trevor Chalobah, and Jorginho started in the back four.

West Ham also lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Michail Antonio, Mohamed Khedous, Lucas Paqueta, Jerrod Bowen, Tomasz Szczecszek, Edson Alvarez, Emerson, Angelo Ogbonna, Kurt Zouma, Vladimir Koufal, and Alphonse Areola started for the Hammers.

Chelsea took the lead first. In the 15th minute, Madueke’s cross from the left flank was met by Jackson at the back post, but the defender was unable to handle the ball properly. Palmer was waiting for the rebound and finished with his left foot to give Chelsea the lead.

West Ham would be disappointed. In the 16th minute, Bowen’s header off a corner kick hit the post and went wide. Chelsea pushed for more. In the 18th minute, Madueke’s shot was deflected by the defense. From the ensuing corner, Chalobah’s header was headed straight at the keeper.

Chelsea didn’t stop there. In the 36th minute, off a corner kick, Gallagher’s cross was headed on by Silva. Madueke headed it home to extend the lead.

West Ham hit the ground running. In the 44th minute, Koufal’s cross from the right flank was pushed away by the keeper. The second ball was played in by Bowen, but he hit the post. The first half ended with Chelsea leading 3-0.

At the start of the second half, West Ham pulled out their substitutions. Alvarez was taken off and James Ward-Prowse was brought on.

Chelsea struck again early in the second half. Three minutes into the second half, Madueke ran onto a long pass from Chalobah at the back 토토사이트 post and found himself one-on-one with the keeper. Madueke didn’t get greedy, sending a pass to the side for Jackson to slot home.

Chelsea made another substitution. In the 44th minute, Palmer was taken off for Alfie Gilchrist. Five minutes of stoppage time were awarded. Neither team could find the back of the net, and the game ended with a 5-0 victory for Chelsea.
