Marco Royce (35) had a disappointing ending.
Borussia Dortmund fell 0-2 to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) final of the 2023/24 season at Wembley Stadium in London, England, on Sunday (Feb. 2).
Dortmund were on the attack from the start and dominated the game. The first meaningful attack came in the 21st minute when Adeyemi went one-on-one with goalkeeper Courtois, and two minutes later in the 23rd minute when Pilkruk found the back of the net.
Dortmund looked dominant in the first half, holding Real to just one shot on target. However, in the second half, Real’s more experienced squad stifled Dortmund and eventually took the lead.
With the game not going as well as they thought it would, Real took the lead in the 29th minute when Carvajal headed home a pinpoint cross from a corner kick. Despite playing well, Dortmund’s confidence was quickly shaken after losing the lead.
In the 38th minute, they made another mistake. Dortmund’s young defender Matthsen, who was born in 2002, dropped a pass in the buildup and Vinicius was able to pounce on it to score.
Dortmund had the better of the play, but were unable to find the back of the net against the more experienced Real side. In the end, they had to accept the runner-up result.
Marco Reus was arguably the most talked about member of the Dortmund squad after the game. He said goodbye to the home fans in the final match of the Bundesliga season on April 18, leaving the club after 11 years.
At the time, he vowed to “bring the UCL trophy home” in front of more than 80,000 fans. The reason for his determination was that he had already failed 토토 to reach the UCL final.
Reus joined Dortmund in the 2012/13 season and went straight to the UCL final. Dortmund, then led by Jürgen Klopp, lost 1-2 in the final to ‘nemesis’ Bayern Munich.
And, as if that weren’t enough, the club hasn’t had any major success in the Bundesliga or UCL. He won two DFB-Pokal titles and three DFL-Supercup titles, but only finished runner-up seven times in the all-important Bundesliga and twice in UCL.
Reus took to the field in the 27th minute for Adeyemi. He worked hard to avoid reliving the pain of 11 years ago, but the result was the same.
Dortmund conceded two goals in quick succession after Reus’ introduction and finished runners-up. As a result, Reus walked off the UCL stage looking the same as he did when he first suited up for Dortmund.
