The San Diego Padres of the U.S. Major League Baseball (MLB) officially announced the recruitment of Ko Woo-seok (25), who was playing as a closing pitcher for the LG Twins of the KBO League.
The San Diego team said in a press release on the 4th (Korean time), “We signed a two-year contract with right-handed reliever Ko Woo-seok that includes a mutual (mutually agreed upon) option. “This contract was announced directly by general manager AJ Preller.”
The club did not disclose the total amount of the contract, but Dennis Lin, in charge of San Diego for The Athletic in the United States, said, “Go Woo-seok has a buyout of $500,000 (approximately 650 million won), $1.75 million (approximately 2.3 billion won) in the 2024 season, and 2.25 million won in the 2025 season. It was announced that a contract worth US$4.5 million (approximately KRW 2.9 billion) was guaranteed over two years.
For the 2026 season, the contract includes $3 million (approximately KRW 3.9 billion) as a mutual option, and Go Woo-seok can receive up to $7 million (approximately KRW 9.2 billion) for 2+1 years. LG, Go Woo-seok’s original club, is expected to receive $900,000 (approximately 1.2 billion won), which is 20% of the $4.5 million guaranteed to Go Woo-seok.
