Arizona seeks second World Series appearance in 22 years

The Major League Baseball (MLB) Arizona Diamondbacks have advanced to the World Series after defeating the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 7 of the National League Championship Series (NLCS).

Arizona

Defeated the Phillies, 4-2, in Game 7 of the 2023 NLCS at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Friday (June 25).

After dropping Game 5 in a tiebreaker and facing elimination after winning Game 6 the previous day,

Arizona took Game 7 to advance to the World Series for the first time in 22 years since 2001, when

Byung-hyun Kim played for the franchise.

Arizona will face the Texas Rangers, who are seeking their first title as American League champions,

in a best-of-seven World Series starting on April 28.

The Phillies

Who lost to the Houston Astros in last year’s World Series, are back in the hunt this year but have

been stopped in their tracks by Arizona’s momentum.

Arizona starter Brandon Phott gave up two runs on four hits, one home run, and two walks in four

innings, but struck out seven to earn the win. Arizona then turned to its bullpen to protect the lead.

Catcher Gabriel Moreno hit a game-winning RBI single with two outs in the fifth inning.

Arizona opened the scoring in the first inning when Christian Walker singled with runners on first and

third. Philadelphia tied the game at 1-1 in the second on an RBI single by Alec Bomb.

The Phillies took the lead for good in the fourth inning when Bryson Stott hit a two-run double with one out.

Arizona rallied in the fifth inning. With two on and one out, Corbin Carroll hit a tying RBI single,

followed by Moreno’s game-winning RBI single to make it 3-2.

Holding on to a slim one-run lead, Arizona added a run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Carroll

with runners on second and third. With the score tied, it was a big one.

Arizona then utilized its bullpen to shut down the eighth and ninth innings to advance to the World Series. 고스톱
