Tottenham Hotspur are not planning to block the departure of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who has been shortlisted for a new captaincy. Instead, they plan to lure Conor Gallagher from rival Chelsea.
“Tottenham want Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher and Aston Villa’s Douglas Lewis as replacements for Hojbjerg, who has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid,” the Daily Mail reported on Tuesday.
According to the outlet, manager Enzi Postecoglou is willing to sell Hojbjerg for the right price, with Spurs eyeing Gallagher and Lewis as replacements.
Hojbjerg is currently attracting interest from Atletico, one of the top three clubs in Spain’s La Liga. Atletico have made signing Hojbjerg a 먹튀검증 top priority in the summer transfer window.
Until now, Tottenham have been unwilling to sell Hojbjerg, but they are now reportedly willing to do so if the right offer comes in. “There have been positive developments in recent days in talks between the two clubs over a transfer fee, but progress remains slow,” the outlet said, adding that “Hojbjerg wants the opportunity to discuss a move to Atletico. Tottenham have also begun their search for a replacement and expect a deal to be done in the coming weeks,” explaining that a transfer is highly likely.
The Danish midfielder has been a regular in Tottenham’s starting midfield since joining the club from Southampton in 2020. He was even tipped by Spurs fans to be the next captain after the departure of Hugo Lloris this summer.
Despite being a bit clunky, he anchored Spurs’ midfield with his work rate and tireless stamina. His fiery personality and fighting spirit were also recognized by the fans as leadership qualities.
However, since Postecoglou’s arrival, his role has diminished. Postecoglou’s preference for a 4-3-3 formation and aggressive tactics, coupled with Hojbjerg’s shaky ball possession, are not a good match.
In fact, in the first preseason game, against West Ham United on April 18, Postecoglou started a midfield three of Oliver Skip, Yves Bissouma, and James Maddison. Hojbjerg started on the bench.

The variable is whether Chelsea will sign Moises Kaysedo. Having offloaded a number of midfielders in the past few months, including Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante, and Jorginho, the Blues are keen on signing Kaido. Their decision to sell Gallagher will depend on whether or not they can land Caido.
