Cheongju KB, a women’s professional basketball team, requested the Women’s Korea Basketball League (WKBL) to hold a referee briefing session regarding the third game of the championship game.
KB lost 57-62 in the away game against Asan Woori Bank in the third game of the Woori Bank Woori WON 2023-2024 Women’s Professional Basketball Championship (3 wins out of 5) held at the Yi Sun-shin Gymnasium in Asan, South Chungcheong Province on the 28th.
KB, stuck with 1 win and 2 losses, must win the remaining 4th and 5th games to achieve a comeback victory.
The referee briefing session for the third round of the championship match requested by KB was held at the WKBL headquarters in Gangseo-gu, Seoul on the afternoon of the 29th.
The contents and results of the referee briefing session are generally kept private in both men’s and women’s professional basketball, but on this day, WKBL unusually announced the results of the referee briefing session on its Internet homepage.
According to WKBL, out of a total of 22 items objected to by KB, one was misjudged and 11 were undetermined.
Unknown refers to situations where a whistle should have been blown, such as a foul, but no call was made.
Therefore, it seems that the results of today’s referee briefing session may be a variable in the referee’s whistle for Game 4 on the 30th.
In Game 3 on the 28th, KB was ahead by as many as 16 points, 35-19, in the second quarter, but suffered a painful loss after allowing a comeback in the second half.
In the first game held at Cheongju Gymnasium in North Chungcheong Province on the 24th, KB was unable to maintain a 10-point advantage in the early fourth quarter and suffered its first home loss of the season.
