Uhm Won-sang injured by opponent’s tackle in semifinal against Uzbekistan on Thursday
Team to hold recovery training on pork belly and yukgaejang meal
The injury suffered by Hwang Sun-hong’s attacking pivot Uhm Won-sang (Ulsan) in the semifinal
against Uzbekistan (Uzbekistan) is reportedly not as serious as feared.
An official from the Korea Football Association said on May 5, “Uhm Won-sang’s injury is a mild left
ankle sprain,” and added, “We plan to determine whether he will play in the final by watching the progress.”
Uhm Won-sang was injured in the 16th minute of the men’s football semifinal against Uzbekistan at
the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games at the Huanglong Sports Center Stadium in Hangzhou, China,
after a rough tackle from Ibrohim Halil.
He continued to play through the injury, but was eventually replaced by Ahn Jae-joon (Bucheon) in
the 21st minute. Uhm Won-sang was carried off the field by a teammate after the game.
South Korea won the game 2-1, thanks to a multi-goal performance from Jung Woo-young (Stuttgart), and advanced to the final.
The team headed to a Korean restaurant for lunch to fuel up on pork belly and yukgaejang. The team
will spend the afternoon at the team hotel doing some light stretching and walking for recovery.
Hwang Sun-hong will face Japan in his bid for a third straight Asian Games title. Following the
Jakarta-Palembang 2018 Games, the ‘Final Korea-Japan’ has been organized.
The final will be held at the Kowloon Sports Center Stadium on Sunday at 9 p.m. KST. 스포츠토토링크
