Edouard Azar is expected to stay in the game.
“Azar, who is currently without a club, is set to sign a one-year deal with Royal Entwerp,” Belgian outlet CutOpsa reported on Tuesday.
Azar is considered a former Premier League star. After joining Chelsea in 2012, he became one of the world’s best players, scoring 85 goals and providing 61 assists in 245 games until 2019.
His performances earned him a move to Real Madrid. Real spent a whopping 115 million euros ($161.9 billion) on his signature, touting him as their next ace.
So much for the success myth. Since joining Real, Azar has been on a steep decline. A combination of injuries and poor self-care led to controversy over his weight.
Last season was no different. Azar was not in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans. He was given a chance to play in 10 games but failed to break out of his slump, scoring just one goal.
Eventually, Real’s patience ran out. “We have decided to terminate the contract early by mutual consent with Azhar,” the club said last month, effectively releasing him.
That’s when his wanderlust began. No team wanted him after his poor form over the past few years. Even the United States and 스포츠토토 Saudi Arabia were not interested.
There was even talk of retirement. Some even claimed that Azhar had finally decided to retire this summer.
According to the report, Azhar is close to agreeing a one-year deal with Entwerp.
There is also a possibility that his stay could be longer. “The deal between Azhar and Entwerp will be a 1+1 deal,” the outlet said. After the one-year contract period, he can stay with Entwerp for another year if they want,” the source said.
