KU beats Yonsei for second straight MBC title 13th overall

(SEOUL) By Kim Dong-chan (Yonhap) = Korea University has won the 39th MBC Bae National University Basketball Sangju Tournament.

KU, led by head coach Joo Hee-jung, defeated ‘rival’ Yonsei University 69-58 in the men’s first-place final on the final day of the tournament at Sangju Gymnasium in North Gyeongsang Province on Tuesday.

With the victory, KU defeated Yonsei in the final for the second consecutive year to retain its crown.

KU also won the tournament for the 13th time in its history, surpassing Yonsei with 11 titles.

Yonsei won the tournament in 2021 and finished as runner-up the last two years.

KU was led by Yoo Min-soo with 20 points and 11 rebounds and Park Jung-hwan with 16 points and nine assists to outpace Yonsei, which was led by Lee Min-seo with 17 points.

KU dominated the rebounding battle 41-25 and led by as many as 21 points, 55-34, at the end of the third quarter in a one-sided game.

KU’s Park Jung-hwan was named the Most Valuable Player, while Yonsei’s Kim Gun-woo received the honorable mention.

Suwon University won the women’s title and Ulsan National University 한국야동 won the men’s title.
