Actress Lee Young-ae has offered 50 million won ($36,000) to help the families of the fallen 46 heroes of the ROKS Cheonan, a South Korean Navy corvette destroyed by a North Korean submarine torpedo attack in 2010.

A foundation established to support the families and its surviving former crew members said on Monday that Lee made the 추천 donation in memory of those “who sacrificed their lives” for their country, expressing her appreciation for their dedication.

For many years, the 53-year-old, a daughter of a Korean War veteran, has made headlines for her philanthropy.

Just last week, Good Neighbors, a Seoul-based NGO promoting children’s rights, announced that Lee and her two children offered 51 million won to help treat children suffering from illness.

In December 2023, the Korea-U.S. Alliance Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded in 2017 to strengthen the relations between the two countries, said Lee made a contribution of 50 million won the previous month.
