Kane turns down trophy ceremony for Tottenham fans

Harry Kane is a romantic.

“Fans witnessed Harry Kane in action at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before Bayern Munich defeated Tottenham to win the Vitality Malta Cup,” the British outlet Sports Bible reported on Nov. 11 (ET).

A lot happened for Kane in the transfer market last summer. Tottenham had one year left on his contract, and talks to renew it were stalled. Several big clubs were monitoring Kane’s movements. The most interested team was Munich, who were without a striker.

The German club was in a tug-of-war with Spurs over the transfer fee. Eventually, Spurs increased their asking price and Kane was hesitant about the move. But on August 11, it was finally decided that Kane would leave Spurs.

He joined Munich for a transfer fee of €100 million and a €20 million add-on. Since then, Kane has been Munich’s top scorer and helped the team to a third-place finish and a failed title challenge.

Kane did not participate in Munich’s trip to South Korea and, unsurprisingly, did not play in Tottenham’s preseason match against 토토사이트 추천 Bayern Munich at the Seoul World Cup Stadium. Kane finished runner-up at Euro 2024 with England and took time off to recover, but resumed training last week.

Kane has since traveled to London with Munich. Tottenham lost 2-3 to Bayern Munich in a preseason match on Nov. 11 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England.

After the match, Bayern were awarded the winner’s medal and the Visite Malta Cup, named after the match’s presenting partner, was presented. In his first appearance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since joining Munich, Kane came off the bench in the second half as captain.

Although he didn’t score, Kane was given the opportunity to lift the trophy on his home turf as captain. However, Kane declined and instead handed the armband to teammate Jozua Kimmich. Tottenham fans applauded Kane for his gesture.

“I have nothing but respect for Kane, he is a complete Tottenham legend,” wrote one fan. “He’s a great player and I’m proud to have him in my team,” wrote another, “It may seem silly to some but it’s a classy gesture,” and “Even as an Arsenal fan, I think fair play is great. It’s a great gesture” and so on.

Meanwhile, Tottenham, who finished the preseason with five wins and two losses, will head into their Premier League opener against Leicester City on Sept. 20 without having solved their defensive woes.
