SEOUL (Yonhap) — The South Korean mixed medley relay team of Ji Yoo-chan (20, Daegu Metropolitan City), Yang Jae-hoon (25, Gangwon Provincial Office), Heo Yeon-kyung (17, Bangsango) and Jeong So-eun (27, Ulsan Metropolitan City) set a new South Korean record in 400 meters.South Korea finished the 400-meter medley relay in 3 minutes, 27.99 seconds during the qualifying round of the 2023 World Aquatics Championships at Fukuoka Marine Messe Fukuoka Hall in Fukuoka, Japan, on Monday.The time was 1.36 seconds faster than the previous South Korean record of 3:29.35 set by Hwang Sun-woo, Lee Yoo-yeon, Jung So-eun and Heo Yeon-kyung at the Budapest World Championships last year.Korea Swimming also saw an casinositezone “overall improvement” in the team events, with the men’s 800-meter freestyle relay (7:04.07), mixed medley relay (3:47.09), and mixed freestyle relay (3:47.09) setting new Korean records.However, they did not make the final in the 400-meter medley relay.South Korea finished 13th out of 43 teams in that event. There are no semifinals in the 400-meter medley relay, with the top eight qualifiers advancing directly to the final.At last year’s Games, Korea finished 11th in the event. At this year’s Games, the Koreans improved their time by 1.36 seconds, but dropped two places.
